2024-25 Week Ten Results

The Knights snapped their losing streak in thrilling fashion, edging out the Thunderbirds in a high-scoring battle that ended 9-8. The game was a showcase of offensive firepower, with both teams exchanging goals in rapid succession. The Knights’ Marty Witberg was the standout performer, scoring four goals and earning first-star honors, while goaltender Ron Woodring made 16 crucial saves to secure the Knights’ first win of the season. For the Thunderbirds, Anthony Theuer had a stellar outing in just his second game as a substitute, netting five goals and setting up another.  

The action started at a blistering pace in the first period, with 10 combined goals. Theuer opened the scoring for the Thunderbirds, but the Knights responded with four straight goals from Zeljko Sreckovic, Trei Cools (twice), and Witberg. Theuer kept the Thunderbirds in the fight, scoring twice more, while Jeff Fleshner and Alex Ernsberger also contributed to their comeback effort. With just one second left in the period, Cools completed his hat trick to give the Knights a narrow lead heading into the intermission.  

The second period was just as intense, with both teams trading momentum. Witberg added another tally for the Knights early on, but the Thunderbirds mounted a spirited response, led by Theuer and Ernsberger, who combined for three consecutive goals to briefly take the lead. However, the Knights’ Witberg came through in the clutch again, tying the game late in the frame. The final period was a defensive battle compared to the earlier fireworks, with Witberg scoring the decisive goal to complete his four-goal performance and seal the victory for the Knights.

Despite the Thunderbirds’ valiant effort, including Fleshner’s standout contributions, the Knights’ determination and timely scoring lifted them to an exhilarating first win of the season.  

With this victory the Chargers have officially sealed up first place for this year. With the Knights and Thunderbirds each facing them one more time this year, the Knights will have a chance to tie and take home second place as they have the tie breaker. Our next game takes place February 15th between the Thunderbirds and Chargers.
