2022-23 Playoffs Final - Game Two Results
Game 2 of the finals for the Jason Drapinski Memorial Cup took place this past Saturday and it was a back-and-forth thriller from start to finish.
In the 1st period the Hornets scored the first two goals reminding the Wolf Pack that just because they went undefeated throughout the whole season winning the cup was not going to be easy stroll in the park. The Wolf Pack stayed composed firing back leaving the 1st period in a tie of 4 - 4. With it all the line all members of each team stepped up scoring significant goals at key moments of the game contributing to the back-and-forth competitive nature of the game.
The 2nd period saw the Wolf Pack take a slight edge scoring 6 goals as opposed to the Hornets scoring another 4 goals for their team ending the period with a score of 10 – 8. The 3rd period looked to be going to a possible sudden death OT, however, playoff MVP Marty Witberg of the Wolf Pack would prove to be just as dangerous as his teammate and top scoring player Tristan Parent. Marty netted 7 goals for his team proving to be an enormous difference maker during the entire game. The last 5 minutes you could feel the tension in the air as it really could have gone either way for either team. The Wolf Pack were extremely determined and never lost the faith in themselves, never giving up or getting shaken in the heat of the moment. Tristan Parent scored the final goal with one minute remaining for his team putting an end to Hornets hopes of a game 3.
Congratulations to the Wolf Pack who went undefeated this entire regular season and during the playoffs as well. They are the new and well-deserved Jason Drapinski Memorial Cup champions.
Thank you to all the players, referees, and volunteers who help make this season possible. We, the WCHL, appreciate all the support and look forward to another great season that will begin this fall!
