2024-25 Week Eight Results
Last weekend the Thunderbirds and Knights battled in a thrilling matchup, with the Thunderbirds edging out a 6-5 victory in a back-and-forth contest.
The first period set the tone for the high-scoring affair, with Marty Stack opening the scoring for the Thunderbirds before Jeff Fleshner added another to make it 2-0. The Knights responded with Marty Witberg converting a feed from Zeljko Sreckovic, but Fleshner struck again, assisted by Tristan Parent. Witberg added his second goal for the Knights before Parent capped off the period with a goal, giving the Thunderbirds a 4-2 lead heading into the break.
The Knights fought back in the second period, fueled by the dynamic duo of Witberg and Sreckovic. Sreckovic scored twice, both assisted by Witberg, to tie the game at 4-4. However, the Thunderbirds would not be denied as Parent tallied his second goal of the game, restoring a one-goal lead for his team. The period was marked by intense action on both ends, with Thunderbirds’ goalie Andrew Calvin standing tall, making several key saves to keep his team in front.
In the final period, the Knights continued to press, with Witberg completing his hat trick to tie the game at 5-5. But the Thunderbirds found a way to secure the win as Fleshner completed his hat trick with an assist from Parent, sealing the 6-5 victory.
Calvin’s 35-save performance earned him the third star of the game, while Witberg’s three-point outing and Fleshner’s game-winning hat trick secured the top two honors. The Thunderbirds improved to 3-3-0, while the Knights fell to 1-4-0.
Players will now take their winter break as we get ready to finish up the season in 2025!
